Oversized shirts and knits! :)

Even though personally, I think that shirts and blouses are really pretty and I'm completely in love with them, it *is* getting cold. So I have to say that right now, the ideal is going for one of those chunky, oversized knits. ZARA have really nice ones which I've seen all over Lookbook.nu, for example.

These, below, are two of my picks:

Knit by Alexander Wang. Shirt

There are a number of ways of successfully pulling off these oversized numbers. I  do suggest opting for something figure-hugging and with minimal volume for the bottom part of your outfit. I generally try to avoid looking like an overstuffed soft-toy.

Here are a few of my favourite ways of wearing chunky knits and large shirts:

1. Worn with a plain pair of leggings, cargo boots and a nude coloured scarf (depending on your colour scheme!). I particularly like this, it comes off in a really cute way.
2. Worn with jeggings/skinny jeans and edgy accessories.
3. With a tube skirt and heels/wedge booties and some pretty jewellery to glam up the whole look.

I started University recently, and unsurprisingly enough, I switched to Architecture. I really think that my first few lectures in Engineering made me realize how much I love art, design and fashion. I do think I'm a very visual person, and I really think about what I see. I also believe that it is through these visual elements that we express ourselves and who we are. Hence my love for Fashion and alas, this blog.

Today I spent a day fooling around to the likes of Foster the People and Flight Brigade, trying on all sorts of wacky outfits and items of clothing I simply forgot I had. What I find helps too is creating mood boards out of magazine cutouts.  Experiment as much as you can with what you have, you have no idea what wonderful outfits you can create.

If I could sum up my style in one (or two) words, it would be 'mix-and-match' (oh well, that's three words...) . An amalgamation of styles and bits of things I like. In fact, I see this quite a bit, especially in street styles. When you see what people wear outside, it's different. Unlike a runway collection, I do think that one is more free, because there isn't the need of a theme or 'coherence' if you must. You dress as you please.

Feathers, Texture and a touch of Gold.
Brilliant.

I find this really beautiful because it has remarkable semblance to an expertly done piece of art . Every element in this dress is balanced out with the incorporation of an opposite- details which compensate, so to speak. There is the shimmery gold in contrast with the soft tones, the volume of the puffed, feathery texture of the skirt with the structured, fitting bust. You can really appreciate what the designer did here.

What this design reminds me of is one of Fendi's SS creations we saw on the runway last year. See the flowing lace mesh fabric flowing down to the floor and the va-va-vooom feathery sleeves? The peeking of satin from underneath and the shoes with their metallic silver platforms? Compensation, compensation. It's a visual art, therefore there has to be balance.

Blue/green eye-pencil. :3
Exams being way, way over with.
Having gone to Italy.
Visiting Venice.
Literally sprinting through what approximately seemed like half the city of Venice to reach the Train Station in time.
Taking a short road trip to Bled Lake in Slovenia.
Spending time with the cousin.
Being promoted to University. (WOOOOOT :D)
Going to a really fun fundraiser concert, Brothers in Arms. It rocked. :)
Running around like a lunatic in shallow sea with the best friend.

One thing I'm not liking, however, is *still* not knowing what to study.
On the other foot, I did narrow it down. Now let's hope for the best.

I have my Maths A-level exam in a little less than four days. And there's still too much to be done. Not to mention this article I've been working on since forever. It will be up soon hopefully...

In the mean time I shall endlessly and without any sign of pause continue listening to Florence Welch and her band Florence and the Machine. I find her absolutely amazing, by the way. Which is why I shall dedicate this small space below to embed a YouTube Video of her/the band by watchlistentell. :)

Also, I'm not only in love with their music, but also with Florence Welch's distinct styling. She definately one to keep an eye on.

I have two new (new to be uploaded, let's put it this way) works of art. Now, they could do with more retouching and nitpicking... but I could go on doing that for ages, years, millenia- if I actually lived that long.

This is a work I did in my sketchbook.

An Art project for school where we had to design a poster inaugurating the 400th Anniversary from Caravaggio's Death.

I love colour and acrylics. Actually, you can easily deduce that by simply looking at anything I usually wear at home- hoodies, pyjamas- anything I wear when I usually paint.

I'm a big fan of colour.
Just in case you couldn't tell.

This is a sketch I did a while ago and had completely forgotten. It was inspired from a Matthew Williamson Design Blair Waldorf was wearing in an episode of Gossip Girl.

Imogen Heap- Hide and Seek

This is an art project I did last June. I was actually working on another, completely different theme. However I had to scrap it and started from scratch as I didn't like my first drought at all. The trick, most often, is to just go with your gut, even if yo might think it's too difficult for you to carry out successfully. If you want to paint it, paint it. Giving things a try is usually the secret to successfully creating something you're proud of.

For this work, the only object I started with was a plastic flower. I elaborated into cherry blossoms because they remind me of the this tree we had at school in Secondary. By spring, it would have transformed into a pink haze. Amazing.
This is why I love art, it comes on its own, from pictures, scenes and feelings you experience. Even things you might not be actively conscious of.

Overall, this picture has two main themes; the beauty creative expression. Fashion is an element in this picture, I can't really help it. It's very interlinked with art in my point of view so it pops up practically everywhere. And then there's music... I really think human beings cannot live without it, in all its different forms. It gives us something more in our everyday lives :).
