Chantelle Winnie is a model that I - along with the rest of the world (probably) - discovered through America's Next Top Model. The show is not exceptional, really, but if you like fashion and photography and photo shoots (which is the only reason I watch it hah), it is great.

Chantelle was a contestant in the latest season of America's Next Top Model. She did not do exceptionally well in the competition, but I happen to believe that that does not really and truly reflect the actual potential she has as a model.

The really special thing about her, is her skin - clearly. She has a condition called Vitiligo, which is a chronic disease where patches of skin loose their pigmentation. Chantelle had this since she was four, so she had what she describes as a tough childhood especially when around other children.

However, it is beautiful that both in the competition and even when out in the 'real' modelling world, that flaw - so to speak - was that thing that set her apart and contributed to her beauty, and people saw that beauty. The disease doesn't wear her, she wears it.

One of her latest collaborations was with Desigual for their Spring/Summer 2015 collection, which was not the first time she teamed up with them. Both that and the Autumn/Winter 2014 collaboration she did with Desigual were great advertorial shoots in my opinion - she was an immensely great fit for Desigual. However, the first  photo above shows that skin condition or not, she can do an array of things and moods. It is a paradox, because while very unique and interesting, it seems to me like she still has that adaptability that successful models have.

The above shoot must be my favourite, the angle of the camera in the first photo, the angles of her body and limbs and the ethereal expression  - it all came together.

I think all this is an exceptional image. I feel that it is proof that society and the fashion industry are collectively  moving away from that exclusively obvious, perfect perfect and all symmetrical beauty. Beauty is a lot of things, in my opinion.

At any given Fashion week, with catwalks and numerous fabulous designs and designers, one of the thrills that can happen is when you love everything in particular look, piece of clothing or detail.

Oscar de la Renta's collection was a thrill to watch. Piece after piece, the designs were pretty and feminine throughout, with gingham thrown in with the lace pastels and the pinch of stripes thrown in.

Look 1: A great look to open with. It revealed enough about the collection to keep you wanting.

Even though the collection had a consistency throughout in fabrics and tones, the designs presented in this collection would provide something for everyone. In fact, in my head, I was spotting things and making mentals notes about outfits and clothes that could dress all four of the main female characters in Sex and the City, all to their personal style. For example, The second look in the two pictures above is definitely a Samatha Jones. The first in the two above those, a Charlotte York.

The above pieces were my favourite dresses in this show, and I'm almost positively certain that they will crop up on the red carpet soon enough. I find that the first one especially is a bit reminiscent of the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2012. The dress that Kate moss wore in that show, white with feathery bits, definitely could pass for this number's baby sister.

Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2012

And to continue with the Oscar de la Renta show, the piece below is another that quite stood out to me. A very Carrie-Bradshaw-esque piece in my opinion, especially with the pastel pink, off the shoulder crop top. I'm also in love with this yellow-green colour.

All in all, a fabulous collection. Mixing and matching of different textures, colours and patterns is my most favourite element in designs, and apart from the inherent femininity, it is definitely what called out to me in this designer's work.

London based Model Ricki Hall made a name in what is probably  due to his delectable style. He has the beard, what are described as most photogenic tattoos and made it big due to having such a distinctive look.

The things that struck me most when I first saw his photos were two things, his beard and tattoos were one, obviously... and the other was the way he brings his attitude and character to the focus in the picture. He photographs well, no doubt - duh, model!- but most of all, the inherent style in his own persona does. In my research, something that stood out was that he has such a distinctive attitude to life. He might seem arrogant to few, direct, rude to others, but all in all he seems like quite the character.

Overall, Ricki Hall is one of the few who made Tattoos popular in high fashion. In fact, one of the first things I thought when I discovered him was that he was so different from other male models you see on the catwalk. Having said that, his look is quite editorial. On the catwalk it's different, its the clothes that have to shine, not the model per se. And Ricki Hall, well, his personality does steal the spotlight a tiny bit.

Described in his own words, Ricki Hall's style can be said to be minimal and 'easy to chuck on', favouring skinny jeans and Doc Martens especially.

And a small interesting fact  is that in an interview with My Portis Wasp, Ricki also mentioned a friend, Jimmy Q, who he describes as a model who "has such a look it almost hurts". He is most definitely right.

This morning I was browsing Tumblr and what Fashion posts I have hearted in the past few days and I came across this:

Below, where before I hadn't noticed it, I saw the word 'Abbey'. Abbey as in Abbey Lee Kershaw. As I googled her, I found out that I had innocuously been posting pictures of her outfits, both on the runway and street styles.

In short, I'm in love with her style. So much so she's officially my first 21st Century Style Icon. What I love about her is that she has an ability to pull off things in any way she wants. She is versatile both as a model and with her own looks and styling. Even with the same bloody outfit. Let me show you.

The above picture illustrates one of my favourite ever. Why? Because it's very much like what I would wear. Loose lace dress, the large blazer, its colour. However, this is not the only time she wore that outfit. Ladies and, possibly, gentleman, look and admire:

Picture from here

Can you believe it? She looks so stunningly different that she doesn't even seem like the same person.

You might be thinking that it's obvious, you might think it is indeed nothing special. But it certainly is something I deem highly crucial in Fashion. Having the ability to make yourself look a certain way is a way of expressing yourself, and this is maybe one of the top, main reasons why I love Fashion so much.

What makes her look so different is how she complemented the outfit. Make-up, hair and possibly more than we can currently observe. Clearly, she knows her assets and works them to her benefit. The ability to pull off different looks is knowing yourself and how to style according to what you are like. Fashion and style isn't only about the clothes. It's about how you wear them, how you define what you want through them, and not the brand or anything else.

Now, Abbey is a model, so on the runway she does actually have to sell the brand. I chose her to illustrate my point because as a model, she easily shows what I mean as her style is very distinct even when she's not working. Though, to be fair, if Abbey had any particular style it would be called 'versatile'.

Quick(ish) post today! I'm soon off to my old sixth form, De La Salle. They have Lasallian Nights show tonight and I'm going to see them get ready, meet up with people and take some pictures.

Last week I carried out a Photo shoot with Rebecca for my project. It was loads of fun :).

I must also say that I learned a lot about Fashion Photography. Not only about technicalities like poses, lighting and angles, but also how these affected the overall atmosphere and "message" in your work. "A picture is worth a thousand words" ; it's true. Every little twist of the head, flicker of an eyelid or the bend of an arm contributes to the aesthetic quality of the shot. I also noted that a Fashion Photographer can be quite the artist. This is in the sense that s/he uses settings, figures, lighting and all the elements around him to convey a message, a perception, maybe in a way you never thought about before.

The main theme chosen here was focused around the investigation of how the punk-rock subculture affected mainstream fashion. With their edgy accessories and haircuts, attire and bright but grungy feel.

Overall I think that this activity was valuable and highly educating. More than anything, being behind the camera makes you see things in a way you probably wouldn't in your everyday routine.
